    When User-Innovation Communities break ranks: an exploration of managerial approaches to dealing with undesired innovation

    The internet has not only fostered the proliferation of virtual communities, but has extensively influenced the Manufacturer User-Community relationship and thus, the potential for conflict between these two parties. More often, user innovation communities design or adapt products in a way the manufacturer does not want or favor it. This research aims to examine these User-Manufacturer discrepancies, the change of a user innovation community’s role in the product development process and it furthermore sheds light on current managerial approaches towards undesired innovation and undesired user innovation behavior.
